Hey Pod Pals!

This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 8:20 am CST. 

I'm getting the newsletter party started a little early today because I've got a busy morning schedule so let's dive in!

⭐️ This week we are going to talk about my favorite paid ads strategy: podcast player app banner ads!

I wish that I knew about this strategy back in 2015-2016 during my first year as a podcaster! I was driving the podcast growth struggle bus trying to figure out how to run FB ads to promote my show and I was basically just handing money over to Mark Zuckerberg with no expectations at all of a positive result! 

Then one day I was introduced to Overcast FM and their banner ads platform. Overcast FM is a podcast player, just like Apple Podcasts and Spotify....but smaller....although there are still millions of people listening on this app. 

Overcast FM allows you to run a banner ad on their platform which means that you can advertise your podcast directly to a podcast listener as they are listening to a show in the podcast category that you selected.

EXAMPLE: I can run a 30 day banner ad in the business category for my show Podcasting Business School. If you are on the Overcast FM app listening to a business show my banner ad will eventually pop up. You can click on it, subscribe, and start listening to shows right away! 

Now if you are excited about running a banner ad here are a few pro tips:

✅ 1. You get to customize two lines of text on your banner ad....make them count! Make this text super attractive for potential listeners and be sure to PREVIEW your banner ad to confirm the text all fits correctly.

✅ 2. Shoot for an ad price that has an estimated $7.00 CPA (cost per new subscriber) or below.

✅ 3. Don't choose the ALL category where they run your ad across all of the podcast categories at once. I've never seen this produce a good result.

✅ 4. Don't run an ad in more than one category at once....I've experimented with this and it definitely waters down your results as the same people might be seeing your ad in multiple categories.
