Hey Pod Pals!
This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 9:05am CST.
I was up extra early this morning to take my son to spring football practice BEFORE school starts....doesn't that sound fun?! 😆
My cold brew coffee is starting to kick in so I'm going to ride the wave and kick out a great newsletter!

I've been talking to a lot of brand new podcasters lately and it has reminded me of what it was like to be someone that is just starting out on this journey.
I posted the following on Threads yesterday:
Podcasting is fun for the first 7 episodes..
Hard as hell for episode 8-100...
Then it gets fun again at episode 100+
IF you stick with it for that long!
I feel like the podcasters that thrive long term are the ones that are able to adapt to the momentum swings(good and bad) that come with being a content creator.
Here's the truth:
I've been LEARNING how to be a good podcaster for the last 11 years now...
and I'm looking forward to continuing to LEARN for the next 11 years.
My job as the Podcasting Business School Chief Inspiration Officer is to share my lessons learned so that you can skip some of the less than desirable experiences that I've gone through.
So with today's newsletter I wanted to update you on FOUR lessons that I've learned about being a content entrepreneur over the last year.
🎯 Lesson #1: We don't "own" our social media accounts.
What a whirlwind year it's been for me on social media! I fell in love with a platform (Threads) and divorced all other platforms so I could quadruple my energy there.
Then......my Threads account got shut down. A bot flagged me as a bot and shut down my account. It took about 2 minutes and ZERO humans were involved.
After spending six days trying....I couldn't get any humans from Meta "Support" to help me out.
So I sent out this very newsletter and asked YOU to help me get my account back by going on Threads and complaining....my account got reinstated within 6 hours!
📌 The lesson behind this lesson is that we MUST build audiences on platforms we own/control.......this is why I love the Podcast + Newsletter combo so much!
🎯 Lesson #2: Platform growth comes once you get to the point where you LOVE creating content for that platform.
Over the past year I've been thinking about this question a lot:
What comes first:
Platform growth or enjoyment of creating content on a platform?
To me it has become obvious that the enjoyment MUST be there first, and I've applied this philosophy directly to my content several times this year.
➡️ Example: I LOVE creating content for Threads and it is now my largest platform by far. I really dislike creating content for other social media platforms....so I stopped.
➡️ Example: I LOVE creating audio podcast episodes. I really dislike creating video content.......so I stopped.
➡️ Example: I LOVE writing this newsletter....so I started writing a super secret bonus Monday newsletter that only goes out to people that actively open this one......and the open rate is above 60% for both of them!
📌 The lesson behind this lesson is that if we don't enjoy creating content it won't be good content.
So we need to give ourselves permission to STOP creating that type of content.
🎯 Lesson #3: I don't need to use email funnels or lead magnets anymore.
This has been really amazing for me! I've been stressing out about learning how to create lead magnets and funnels for TEN YEARS!!!! 😱
The shift for me occurred when my newsletter coach told me that when I use a lead magnet people just want the thing (PDF, freebie, etc)...and they don't necessarily want to open my emails.
So why would we SPAM these people with a 20 email funnel?
On the other hand when someone opts into my newsletter email list....they actually want to open my emails because that is EXACTLY what they signed up to do!
The online business gurus have been ringing the bell of shame at me for doing this, but all I know is that since I've ditched lead magnets and email funnels and focused 100% on my newsletter I've only:
➡️ Added 2,000 people to my email list.
➡️ Opened up HUGE amounts of time within my schedule that I can repurpose to more useful things like making sales and helping clients.
➡️ Increased my email open rate to just under 70% for my main newsletter.
📌 The lesson behind this lesson is that I don't care what the online business gurus think......I'm just over here enjoying the simplicity of my new system and the RESULTS that it is bringing in for me!
🎯 Lesson #4: It's really important to create awareness of the problems you solve and how you can help your audience solve them.
When it comes to getting clients from our podcasts, many of us have noticed that things are changing quite a bit over the past year.....aka....it's been kinda hard!
The same old strategies (funnels, webinars, etc) aren't working as well or at all for many podcasters.
I've been focusing on doubling my efforts to accomplish two key things:
➡️ 1. I'm using my content to make more people aware of the specific problems I can solve for podcasters.
➡️ 2. I'm using my content to make more people aware that they can work with me to help them solve these specific problems FASTER.
Over the past 11 years of being a content entrepreneur I've noticed that when the industry starts to shift it creates stress and there are two specific paths that we have to choose from:
➡️ 1. Get crushed by the stress.
➡️ 2. Use the stress as a stimulus for new ideas, make the necessary adaptations, continue to learn/grow/succeed.
Right now AI is throwing content entrepreneurship for a serious loop and we are all trying to figure out our next moves.
For me it means that I'm focusing more on personal coaching/connection and getting in front of my audience as much as possible......
and you are going to see this with several new things I'm going to experiment with this spring/summer!
BTW....One of my favorite problems to help podcasters out with is helping you get more clients from your podcast content.
If this is a goal that you are working on, I'd love to have you join us next week for my Podcast Content To Clients Workshop.
I'm going to over deliver big-time on your $47 investment!
