podcast content ideas Jul 10, 2025

    Hey Pod Pals!

This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 7:48am CST.

I'm spending another Thursday morning writing my newsletter and sipping NITRO cold brew coffee at Starbucks while my son Henry is at football practice.

Back in 2015 I dreamed of creating a business where I could work from anywhere and communicate effectively with an audience that enjoys my content.........and here we are Pod Pals!

This week's newsletter is being sponsored by ME! ⤵️

This week we are going to talk about some SOLO podcast episode content strategies.

I know what many of you are thinking...."Here's another newsletter where Adam is going to put on his preachy pants about solo episodes!"...and you are 100% correct...LOL!

    Here's the deal:

Solo podcast episodes are the reason why I've been able to create a six figure online business by leveraging my podcast content......so you could say they are kind of a big deal!

Many of you have heard about my 2/3 Content Rule for Expert Positioning, but here's the quick overview:

➡️ I believe that if you want to leverage your show to get clients and build an online business, then 2/3 of your content should position YOU as the expert on your own show.

This means that 2/3 of your content should be SOLO episodes and coaching episodes.

Now I want to 100% acknowledge that many of you are mainly doing interview episodes, and while you understand what I'm saying, you are nervous about going solo.

Let's dive into some of my top solo episode content strategies to get you excited about stepping up to the mic and ready to create:

🎯1. Don't try to make your solo episodes fit the same show format as your interview episodes.

I see a LOT of podcasters that make this mistake.

Here is a quick list for solo episode execution:

✔️ Solo episodes are usually 5-20 mins long. Don't stress out about the length. Just say what needs to be said and then stop recording.

✔️ Don't read from a teleprompter or script.......it will not go well! Just have a few bullet points to guide your thoughts and then go after it!

✔️ Keep it simple: Address one major pain point and provide a simple strategy to start solving that pain point.

🎯 2. Keep an Idea Bank.

I use a Google sheet where I dump all of my solo content ideas. Many of these content ideas come from conversations I have with my content consumers (that's YOU!).

I think having an Idea Bank takes the pressure off of always having to come up with content ideas on the spot before we hit the record button.

When your recording day arrives you just pluck the ripe fruit from the tree.

🎯 3. Figure out what your core teaching topics are.

These will show up at the intersection of what you love to teach about and what your audience members are excited to learn about.

    Mine are:

    ✔️ Podcast Launch.

    ✔️ Podcast Growth.

✔️ How to leverage a podcast to get clients.

    ✔️ Online business development strategies.

🎯 4. Always look for opportunities to discuss pain points with your audience members.

If you ever interact with your audience via email, DM, or at a live event always ask them two important questions:

✔️ What is your next big goal?

✔️ What is keeping you from getting to your next big goal?

These questions lead to solo episode content GOLD!

🎯 5. Establish somewhere around 5-15 essential yearly solo episode topics.

Many podcasters avoid creating content on topics that you have done an episode about before.

Here is why this is a bad approach:

➡️ If you have hundreds of episodes....you can't assume that your audience has listened to all of them.

➡️ New listeners are finding you every day......they need access to your most impactful content.

➡️ How many times have YOU personally taken massive action on something new that you've learned about for the FIRST time???

Sometimes it hits different the 2nd or 3rd time we learn about a topic and that spurs us into taking action!

Each year I have a list of 10 solo episode topics that I MUST create content around. These are the game changer strategies for my core topics.

I personally don't re-release old audio. I prefer to create fresh content on these topics. I'm always learning, so I tend to have slight upgrades/changes from year to year when I cover these topics.

Hopefully, at this point, you feel at least a LITTLE bit better about churning out some solo episode content.

📌 Remember this: Your solo episode content will improve greatly after you hit RECORD + PUBLISH several times......just get started and don't POD-crastinate!
