βοΈ This week we are going to talk about podcast rankings.
When I started my first podcast in 2015 I was definitely aware that there was such a thing as the Apple Top 200 but I had no idea what being ranked actually meant or HOW podcasts got ranked.
I would check the charts periodically and one day it happened......there was my health show The Million Pound Mission! Now that I was on the charts I started to experiment with a few ideas of how to leverage this ranking.
Here are three ways to take advantage of having a top 200 ranked podcast:
β 1. I took screen shots as I climbed the charts and I created social media posts which generated a lot of interest in my show. Being ranked equals SOCIAL PROOF and I was able to get a lot of new listeners to check out the show for the first time. I also posted screen shots of my ranking on my website along with the copy "Top 200 Health Podcast".
Pro Tip: If you are getting screen shots be sure to look around you in the rankings and if there are some ultra famous people/shows make sure they are included in your screen shot. I had screen shots of my show being ranked alongside Jillian Michaels, The CrossFit podcast, etc.
β 2. You can use your ranking to get connected to bigger name guests for your show. I would look at some other shows on the charts that I wanted to collab with and I would send an email or DM with a message like this:
"Hey I was just checking the Apple Podcasts charts and I noticed that our shows were both ranked. I've listened to a few of your episodes and I would love to invite you to come on my show to talk about XYZ"
When I used this invite first strategy I would also get booked to be on their show as a guest most of the time. This is how I got booked on 50 of the top 200 health shows as a guest.
β 3. You can also leverage a top ranked podcast to get booked for speaking gigs. Just include screen shots on your bio page or the info you send out when you apply to speak.
So now that we've talked about what to do when your show pops onto the charts I'm sure you have more questions about what the rankings mean and HOW you can get your show ranked......all of this and more will be revealed in episode 415.

π€© Client testimonial of the week: My client Grace Stevens has an awesome podcast called Balance Your Teacher Life.
Check out what Grace has to say about working with me:
"Adam gave me so much confidence, so many practical ideas, and helped me launch my dream podcast. His real magic lies in the intersection of knowledge, of cheerleading, and honestly, candor. He will tell you what you need to hear, and he'll do it lovingly, but it will be the best podcasting advice you ever got. I have no hesitation recommending him."
