business tips podcast monetization Oct 23, 2025

    Hey Pod Pals!

This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 9:15am CST.

I made a big decision earlier this week!

I'm going to send a short bonus newsletter on Mondays (just to people who have opened an email from me in the last 14 days).

The Monday newsletter will be some quick advice from me to you (Mentorship Monday).

I will be writing as if I'm giving the 2015 version of myself some quick mentorship.....I think you will enjoy it!

Real quick before we dive into this week's topic.... ⤵️

I'm focused on helping podcasters SOLVE these four specific problems:

    1. How to optimize your podcast launch.

    2. How to grow your podcast past 1,000 downloads per episode.

    3. How to convert more podcast listeners into paying clients.

    4. How to simplify your online business so it feels easy, lucrative, and fun.

If you want to explore how we can work together to solve these problems hop on my free Podcast Profit Potential Discovery Call calendar.

This week we are going to address this problem:

🚨 How do I simplify my online business strategy?

Back in 2015 I was a brand new Content Entrepreneur (someone who creates content with a goal of building their online business platform).

I was obsessed with learning "all the things" when it came to podcasting and building an effective online business platform.

Before I knew it....I was feeling the pressure to keep adding more and more complexity to my strategy (stop me when this starts to sound familiar)...

I should've been focusing on just learning how to be a content creator and learning about the core problems of my ideal fit audience members....

I was instead spending HOURS (and a lot of money) trying to learn how to build email funnels, perfect my social media marketing strategy, and build multiple online courses.

At this point in time I had less than 20 podcast episodes and less than 20 total listeners.

I was learning useful things....but at the WRONG time in my journey as a content entrepreneur.

I have to admit that I'm laughing at myself as I write this...

because 10 years later I'm obsessed with ditching many of the strategies that I was so focused on learning how to use when I first started.

So...our goal today is to help give you some clarity on what to focus on FIRST and then slowly add layers of complexity when you (and your business) are ready to do so.

Here are a few friendly suggestions... ⤵️

Content Entrepreneur Complexity Level One Checklist:

✔️ Create ONE simple minimum viable offer.

✔️ Establish expert positioning with your content. (Solo and coaching episodes).

✔️ Use your content to direct your audience to a discovery call.

✔️ Use your discovery call to sell your minimum viable offer.

At this stage of complexity we want to gain experience with answering these two key questions:

What problems are your audience members struggling with?

How can you create a program that addresses (and starts to solve) these problems?

At this level there needs to be a heavy focus on:

➡️ Really getting to know your audience members.

➡️ Developing your confidence as a problem solver.

➡️ Quick pivots/adjustments when something isn't working as well as you thought it would. (Content/Offer)

Content Entrepreneur Complexity Level Two Checklist:

✔️ Start putting focused effort into building your email list.

I WISH that I had started building my email list earlier! Don't make the same mistake that I did!

✔️ Develop a social media strategy and experiment on platforms with a goal to find 1-2 that you can focus on.

At this level there needs to be a heavy focus on:

➡️ Audience growth via email list building and social media efforts.

Content Entrepreneur Complexity Level Three Checklist:

✔️ Time to develop a "one to many" offer.

At this point you will have people finishing your minimum viable offer. They will ask "what's next?" and you will want to have a next step offer ready for them.

For many people this will be a group coaching or membership style offer.

✔️ Start to build tools and resources to help your clients achieve better/faster results.

At this level there needs to be a heavy focus on:

➡️ SLOWLY adding complexity to your business, offers, and resources.

As you get more experience with coaching people via your minimum viable offer you will see opportunities to develop a resource that could help your client get a better/faster result.

These are Google docs, courses, etc.

*Please note that a big mistake that most online business owners make is that they are developing all of these things at the START of their journey...

before they have any real idea what types of problems their core audience members actually have.

Trust me...your time will be much better spent if you stick to the path that we are outlining here today.

Content Entrepreneur Complexity Level Four Checklist:

✔️ Develop ideas for attracting leads.

Things like webinars, free workshops, and free challenges are great ideas to explore at this point.

✔️ Develop a strategy for borrowing other people's audiences.

This is where we start to look at creative collab opportunities, podcast guesting, and speaking on live stages.

At this level there needs to be a heavy focus on:

➡️ Getting in front of more idea fit potential clients.

At this point your offers will be pretty dialed in and your content is heavy with expert positioning.

You've also got a couple of offers (at different price points) that people can purchase from you to get help with solving their problems.

At this point many people will just keep building MORE offers but I feel like that is a mistake.

Don't be the person that has 12 online courses and only 3 podcast episodes!

If your 1-2 core offers are working for you (paying your bills) and your audience (getting the desired result) then you don't NEED to create another offer.

Creative people STRUGGLE with this..... here's the deal:

You need to get your creativity fix via your CONTENT...not by creating an endless amount of online courses and offers.

Your content should be an ever evolving space where you can experiment and explore new concepts and ideas.

Your offer stack needs to be as SIMPLE as possible, so that your ideal fit clients can get started as easily as possible with no clutter and confusion as to how to get started.
