When a new social media platform starts to get traction I think we all feel the same way: This is kinda exciting....I'm feeling some FOMO...but I really don't need another marketing task on my plate right now.
So as the new Threads app has picked up momentum I'm having a lot of conversations in the DM's on the topics of "Should I be on Threads?" or "Do I actually have to be on Threads?".
I thought that it might be helpful to walk you through how I'm looking at Threads or any new social platform. Here's my mental checklist:
✅ 1. Are my audience members going to be hanging out on this platform? If it seems like my tribe will be there I will at least take a peek.
✅ 2. How hard will it be for me to learn the language of this new platform? I have to figure out the time investment it will take to be able to effectively communicate on the new platform. Threads is an extension of Instagram so for me that was a positive as I already "speak" the language of Instagram.
✅ 3. What if this platform crashes and burns a year from now? This is a question I'm getting from a lot of you about Threads...is it the next Clubhouse???? I spent quite a bit of time on Clubhouse and I met a lot of you on there....and a lot of you became my clients. So for me this isn't that scary of a question. I created some amazing relationships that lead to business....awesome! Getting started on Threads has been a really easy lift for me so if I'm able to take advantage of the new platform to create new profitable business relationships I'm ok if it crashes and burns later on for whatever reason.
So do you absolutely have to go "all in" on Threads??? No!
I do think it's worth taking a peek if your audience is on there, you speak the language of Instagram, and you could potentially build relationships that lead to business.
