    Hey Pod Pals!

    This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 8:48am CST.

    I'm starting to adjust my morning schedule to summer mode as my daughter is out of school and my son has his finals week this week.

    I predict that I will be sending many of these newsletters while enjoying my cold brew coffee at a Starbucks this summer (while Henry is at football practice).

      

    Before we dive in today:

    This week we are going to talk about: How one boringly simple strategy has helped me cross one million podcast downloads.

    SPOILER ALERT: Growing your podcast audience is HARD!

    ...and it's a real shame that 90%+ of us are making it way harder than it needs to be!

    If you are a frustrated podcaster that is sick and tired of hearing crickets when you release a new episode I need you to take this ONE simple action step today:

    ➡️ Make sure the very first word in the name of your show is a highly searched KEYWORD.

    The first WORD in the name of your show has the most SEO power in the podcast apps like Apple and Spotify...we must make it count!

    But for real Pod Pals....this stupidly simple strategy has helped me get hundreds of thousands of downloads so let's dive into some specifics.

    This is probably a question that you have:

    Adam, What are my important keywords?

    Here are some things to consider:

    ✔️ 1. We are only worried about the words that your ideal fit listeners are putting into the search bar on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

    ✔️ 2. We should all ask our listeners what they were searching for when they found our show.

    ✔️ 3. There are some apps that can help, but I haven't been overly impressed with any of them yet. 

     

    Here is a list of high performing keywords that I've used to help my clients rebrand their shows in the last couple of years:

    • Health
    • Wellness
    • Nutriton
    • Fitness
    • Weight Loss
    • Fat Loss
    • Personal Growth
    • Self Improvement
    • Mindfulness
    • Mental Health
    • Business
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Marketing
    • Sales
    • Social Media
    • Spirituality
    • Investing
    • Wealth
    • Crypto
    • Real Estate
    • Specific sports: Football, Basketball, etc
    • Specific age groups: Baby Boomers, midlife, etc
    • Specific religions: Christian, Jewish, followers of Alex Hormozi 😆
    • Specific professions: Dentist, Lawyer, Teacher, etc

     

    Here are a couple more quick fixes that will help you dial in this simple strategy:

    ✅ 1. Make sure the first word in your LISTED show name isn't "THE".

    This is BAD: The Podcasting Business School.

    This is GOOD: Podcasting Business School.

    Don't waste your first word keyword super power on THE.

    ✅ 2. Make sure the first word in the name of your show isn't a made up word.

    I'm happy to see so many more women in podcasting these days...but I've got a request for ALL of my female Pod Pals..

    Please stop using made up words in your show name like:

    👉 EntreprenewHER

    👉 HERstory

    👉 HERtrepreneurship 

    Remember that a made up word has ZERO power in the Apple/Spotify search bar.

    Now let's pick on the guys:

    👉 Pod Bros...if you aren't famous don't name your show after yourself. 

    This is especially true if you have an un-spellable and un-pronounceable name like mine (Schaeuble has SO many vowels!)

     

    Now let's handle the BIG objections that you all have at this point:

    Adam....I get it that SEO is important BUT...

    😢 I've already got my IG handle.

    😢 I've already bought the URL.

    😢 I've already paid to trademark the name.

    😢 I've already bought merch to sell (500 custom speedos with my logo on the left butt cheek!!!!!)

     

    Pod Pals...I call this The Newbie Tax.

    We all get hyped up and spend some money in non-ideal ways when we first get started.

     

    The question you need to ask yourself is this:

    Do I want to have a cutely named trademarked show that is impossible for my ideal listeners to discover?

    Or...

    Do I want a strategic (and slightly vanilla) podcast name that brings my ideal fit listeners(and potential clients) to my show while I sleep?

     

    And for those of you that are ALL IN and ready to implement here is my Perfect Podcast Naming Template:

    👉 (BIG KEYWORD) tips/strategies/conversations for (Keyword + niche identifying term)

    Examples:

    🏆 (Online Marketing) for (Personal Trainers)

    🏆 (Mental Health) tips for (New Parents)

    🏆 (Weight Loss) strategies for (Entrepreneurs)

    ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
