business tips podcast content ideas Sep 06, 2023
βοΈ This week we are going to talk about being more efficient with the time we invest into our podcast and online business.
Most podcasters that I am connected with are a team of ONE and they are building their podcasting brand at the same time as they run their company or work a 9-5 job. This means that we can't screw around with the time you have that you can invest in your show and business.
Here are TWO big time wasters that I want you to think about minimizing or avoiding all together:
β 1. Time spent editing audio. It continues to blow my freakin mind how many podcasters have 20-30 minute episodes and it takes them something like four HOURS to edit them!!!! This really needs to stop!
If you have an audio drama type of show then go ahead and nerd out on the editing, sound effects, etc. If you are a service provider, coach, etc....just bring the energy and give your people some action steps to work on. If you leave a few "ums" in the audio....your audience will forgive you....I promise!
Your goal is a 1:1 ratio of episode length and editing time. So that means that if your episode is 30 minutes long then don't spend more than 30 minutes editing it.
β 2. Time spent editing video. This is an even bigger time suck than the audio! If you are really focused on building a Youtube presence then spend a little extra time on the video. If you just feel like you have to prep your content for Youtube because some online Guru told you to do it......let's look at a different option.
I do agree that having something on Youtube is helpful so that you are in the wonderful world of the Google search engine. I disagree that we need to spend HOURS on editing video.
So here is what I do: I use Streamyard to livestream my episodes onto my Youtube channel....DONE. There are no further steps taken. I've got dozens of videos with catchy SEO friendly titles and show descriptions all planted inside the Google garden.
Now that I've given you a couple of things that you can be more time efficient with your next question should be "Adam, what am I supposed to do with the HOURS that you just helped me free up in my work routine???"
I've got you Pod Pals! In this week's episode I'm going to give you SIX tasks that I want you to double down on now that you have more time to work on them.
