Hey Pod Pals!
This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 9:14am CST.
The weather in Missouri is trying to make up its mind...LOL.
It was 80 degrees two days ago and it's 34 degrees today!
I still did my morning walk and I'm ready to write!

When people hear that I've been podcasting since 2015 they often ask me the question Have you ever thought about quitting?
Uh....YEAH....only every day for the first three YEARS!!! 😆
The journey of a content creator/entrepreneur is hard....we all know this.
Today I'm going to dive into two content entrepreneurship traps that almost caused me to quit during the early days of my journey.
😱 Trap #1: Comparison syndrome.
This trap is pretty much unavoidable for most content creators. We see other people out there CRUSHING IT...and we think...my stuff is so much better than their stuff....why am I not seeing the same results?
The thing that saved me from this trap was when I realized that every single podcaster's journey will look different, and there are SO many factors that play into audience growth like:
✔️ Your content niche.
✔️ Your marketing experience.
✔️ Even the day of the week that you release your episodes!
In fact...I covered TEN factors that impact your growth in my latest podcast episode.
To this day, I still have to use all of my podcasting Jedi mind tricks on myself to avoid comparison syndrome.
One thing that works well for me when I find myself being negative:
👉 I think back to when I started and how absolutely PUMPED I would be about the kind of download numbers I'm currently at.
So..Pod Pals...repeat after me:
It doesn't matter that my idiot cousin has 5 million downloads of a show about Pokeman cards that he releases whenever he feels like it......
My journey is unique to me
I am building my own audience in my own niche
And darn it....people like me!
😱 Trap #2: Pressure to "be everywhere" on social media.
This is the trap that causes most podcasters to burn out and quit.
Here's the deal: As intelligent content creators, we realize that we should eventually see some sort of a return on investment for all of this time we are putting into marketing our show.
So when we are spending HOURS per week posting EVERYWHERE....and we are still getting 17 downloads per episode...it's pretty deflating.
I think this is a big reason why 83% of podcasters don't make it to episode number TEN.
Here's the mindset shift that saved me:
👉 Focus on doing LESS but BETTER.
My social media strategy is to be really effective and present on one (maybe two) platforms.
If you choose to go down this path, FOMO (fear of missing out) will rear its ugly head...be ready for it!
But trust me, this strategy works!
For me to focus on a social media platform I must be able to check most, if not all, of these boxes:
✔️ I have to enjoy creating content on the platform (this is a must!).
✔️ I need to see engagement and audience growth happening regularly when I post content.
✔️ People are discovering my podcast.
✔️ People are subscribing to my newsletter.
✔️ People are signing up for discovery calls.
✔️ People are buying things from me.
🎯 I think we all should raise our standards of what we expect from social media platforms if we are going to spend significant amounts of time learning how to effectively use them.
Action step: Look at my checklist above and think about the social media platforms you are spending time on.
Which one checks the most boxes?
Which ones should you press PAUSE on?
We all have to deal with these two traps along our journey as content creators.
My hope is that by reading this newsletter you are at least a little bit better prepared to handle them when they pop up!
