Hey Pod Pals!
This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 8:48 am EST.
We are on spring break out in the Outer Banks in North Carolina this week. It's been nice to get away and get some beach time in!
When I'm on vacation I'm forced to try out different types of cold brew coffee so hopefully that doesn't negatively impact my newsletter writing powers...LOL!
This week's newsletter is being sponsored by ME..โคต๏ธ

This week we are going to talk about my 72 Hour Podcast Promotion Rule.
I've noticed that there are typically two types of podcast episode promotion strategies:
โก๏ธ 1. Damn....I'm too tired to promote this episode....I barely had enough time/energy to get this week's episode OUT!
โก๏ธ 2. I'm going to randomly tell people that there is a new episode out.
Let's fix this Pod Pals!
I created my 72 Hour Podcast Promotion Rule to give podcasters a SIMPLE strategy to use that will help them effectively promote their latest episode.
๐ Here is how it works: I want you to promote your new podcast episode with at least five unique promotion assets within the first 72 hours of the episode going live.
First let's explain the "72 hours" part of this strategy.
Many podcasters don't realize that podcast player apps like Apple and Spotify do in fact operate a little bit like social media platforms.
Example: When you post a new piece of content on Instagram, if you get a bunch of activity (likes, comments, etc) then IG shares it with more people.
Something similar happens with podcast player apps when you post a new episode.
An episode is considered "new content" for about 72 hours post release.
So we have this 72 hour window to really drive as much activity (downloads and listens) to take advantage of the promotion sweet spot on the podcast player app platforms.
In short....we need to focus most of our new episode promotion to be inside of that 72 hour window.
The more activity we drive to our new episode (within the 72 hour window) the more likely it is that our show will pop up more prominently inside the podcast player app search bar.
๐ Pro Tip: I know that many of you have a seven day episode promotion cycle.
I would suggest that you take ALL of those promotion assets and cram them into the 72 hour window.
Now let's talk about the "five unique assets" that we are going to use to promote your new episode within the first 72 hours.
โ This does NOT mean that you can post one piece of content on five different platforms and call it good.
I'm talking about five UNIQUE pieces of promo content....period.
I really don't care how many platforms you post them on. I typically only post on two (Threads/IG).
Here is an example of what I do:
Tuesday (new episode of Podcasting Business School goes LIVE)
โ๏ธ I post a text only IG Story with a link to the episode.
โ๏ธ I post a long form SuperThread that teaches about some of the top takeaways from the new episode.
Wednesday
โ๏ธ I turn my SuperThread (from Tuesday) into an IG post.
Sometimes I do this as a carousel post and other times I will make an IG Reel out of it.
โ๏ธ I post an IG Story with a face to camera video of me talking about why you should check out the latest episode.
Thursday
โ๏ธ This newsletter goes out and I always include a promo of the latest episode.
Those are my FIVE unique pieces of promo content.
I could take that content and repurpose it for many different social media platforms....I just choose not to because 90%+ of my social media engagement/clients come from two platforms (IG/Threads).
๐ I know for a fact that you all want me to tell you the EXACT types of posts "that work" for podcast promotion.....and I'm not going to be able to do that.
There are way too many variables for me to be able to provide an exact social media post prescription that will work for most of you.
Here are a few ideas for you to try out and see what works for you:
๐ Video posts for TikTok/Reels/Facebook. You can use AI to create a ton of these.
๐ Go live on your favorite platform to do Q&A with your audience on the episode topic.
๐ Multi image carousel posts with tips/takeaways from the episode.
๐ SuperThreads: long form posts on Threads/X/LinkedIn that teach on the topic of the episode.
๐ Your weekly newsletter/emailing your list to promote the episode.
๐ I CAN tell you what NOT to do.
Don't waste your time putting up posts that basically say "HEY...here's a new episode...it's super good and here's the link!"
Your episode promo content MUST be an appetizer for the episode.
You should create promo content that says.. if you like THIS....you will LOVE the latest episode.
Here's one last example of a SuperThread that I posted on Tuesday to promote my latest interview episode with Abigail Peugh.
Speaking of my latest episode......
๐ค Podcasting Business School Episode 562: Leveraging social media to sell digital products with Abigail Peugh.
Top takeaways from this episode:
*Abigail's 90 day product promo challenge.
*What's working on the Threads app.
*Why she wants everyone to try out Instagram Trial Reels right away.
๐ Download Growth Club question of the week:
"Does it make sense to go back into older episodes and update the episode titles with better keywords?"
The answer to this is a big YES!
There are three really important places to use keywords:
1. The name of your podcast.
2. Your podcast host description.
3. The titles of your podcast episodes.
As you figure out which keywords are the best for you to focus on, go back and update those old episode titles and get your keywords in there!
๐ Podcast Launch Tip of the week:
One of the most common mistakes I see new podcasters making is that they will launch with just one episode.
When someone is using my Podcast Launch Blueprint program we launch with FOUR live episodes.
I compare this to having four strikes in a baseball game. If someone finds your show you are going to get four "swings" to try and make a connection.
If you only have one episode and the potential new listener doesn't like that topic....it's ONE strike and you are OUT.
โญ๏ธ In episode 084 of Podcast Launch Tips I go more in depth on four episode podcast launch week strategy.
๐คฉ Client testimonial of the week: My client Stephanie has a great podcast called Hello Hot Flash.
Check out what she has to say about working with me inside of my Download Growth Club:
"Since joining The Download Growth Club, in under 30 days, my downloads have doubled and I finally have a strategy for monetization!"
