  • 8 strategies that helped me go full time as a podcaster.

    Jan 23, 2025

⭐️ This week we are going to talk about eight strategies that helped me become a full time podcaster in 2019.

It took me five YEARS to go from a podcast newbie with ZERO subscribers, email list, and social media followers.......to becoming a full time podcaster and online business entrepreneur.

I know that many of you are at least interested in the idea of being a full timer so I thought I would drop a few strategies that have helped me along the way.....so that you can get there faster than I did!

Strategy #1: As I worked towards being a full time podcaster I had to block off a set amount of time each week for:

    ⏰ Content creation

    ⏰ Content promotion

    ⏰ Creating my offers

    ⏰ Building my email list

I started with just 30 minutes every Tuesday afternoon to work on all of the above. Then I expanded the blocked off time to 60 minutes....then to half a day....then to a full day.....etc.

If you don't block off any time for these essential business/brand building tasks your job/family/life will consume your entire calendar and you will spin your wheels for YEARS.

Strategy #2: I created a Start Anytime Offer that:

✅ Helped solve a specific pain point of my ideal podcast listener.

✅ Listeners could purchase and get started with right away.

✅ Allowed listeners to be coached directly by me.

    ✅ I could charge over $500 for.

I figured out that my audience was much more likely to buy an offer that provided direct access to me....and I could charge MORE for that type of an offer.

Strategy #3: I leveraged the three buckets of podcast growth to expand my audience:

    🪣 Organic discovery/SEO

    🪣 Effort based marketing/promo/guesting

🪣 Paid ads ($300-$500 per month)

This strategy helped me to grow my audience to over 25,000 downloads per month by 2019.

Strategy #4: I created a weekly content cadence that my audience could depend on:

➡️ New podcast episodes every week on Tuesday/Friday.

➡️ A fresh newsletter every week on Thursday.

➡️ One free workshop or Pod Pals Zoom Party every month.

📌 I've never missed a weekly podcast episode release since 2015.

📌 I've never missed a weekly newsletter release since 2018.

I consistently show up for my audience and they consistently show up for me.

Strategy #5: I allowed my happy clients to help sell my programs for me via testimonials on..

    😎 My website

    😎 Social media

    😎 My podcast

You can't argue with great results....and we have to show them off consistently!

Strategy #6: I created a recurring revenue stream via a monthly membership offer which allowed me to:

    ✅ Have dependable monthly income.

✅ Expand my online business offer stack.

✅ Create deeper connection (and better results) with super fans.

Strategy #7: I continuously looked for opportunities to niche down.

❌ If your podcast is for "everyone....nobody will listen.

❌ If your offers are for "everyone"...nobody will buy.

Strategy #8: I had a BIG business goal of becoming a full time podcaster and I was willing to WORK for it.

📌 Too many podcasters have big BUSINESS goals...but they are putting in HOBBY level effort.

I invested FIVE YEARS of my life to achieve this dream....If I can do it...so can YOU!

Now you all know that one of my favorite things to talk about is simplifying the process of leveraging your podcast to get clients.

One of the ways I do this is with my super simple website strategy....and I dropped a full episode about it this week!

🎤 Episode 547: My Podcast First simple website strategy.

     Top Takeaways:

*The three essential elements of a Podcast First website strategy.

😎 Podcast listener question of the week:

This week our question is from Laurie-Ann Murabito from the Be In Demand podcast.

*SIDE NOTE* You may remember Laurie-Ann from THIS episode of my podcast. She is an amazing public speaking coach and she gave me some new strategies for my session at Podfest and her guidance really helped me rock the stage. If you want to consider working with Laurie-Ann THIS is a good place to start. I told her that I wanted to shout her out and she offered to pay me to promote her new program and I said "NO WAY!".....so the link above is not an affiliate link, etc....it's just an honest recommendation if you want to level up as a public speaker!

Here is Laurie-Ann's question: "What are some ways that I can promote and grow my podcast outside of social media in 2025"

    Great question Laurie-Ann!

I like to view podcast promotion like a pie chart. We can move the sections of the pie to represent different percentages of where we are putting in effort.

The KEY takeaway is that as you minimize one section of the pie chart you need to expand another section to make up for it.

So if we are going to minimize the "social media effort" section of the pie chart we will have to spend extra time on other promotion methods like:

    ➡️ Podcast guesting.

    ➡️ Paid ads.

    ➡️ Organic discovery/SEO.

    ➡️ Email marketing.

I think one very simple solution for you would be to work hard this year to ELIMINATE social media platforms each month until you get down to 1-2 to focus on.

This will greatly reduce your time on social media....and you will probably enjoy that time a LOT more!

If you would like to submit a question for me to answer in this newsletter and maybe even on my podcast here is how to do it:

    1. Use my Speakpipe link to record 90 seconds or less of audio.

    2. Use this template: "Hi this is (YOUR NAME) from (YOUR PODCAST NAME). My question for Adam is (ASK YOUR QUESTION)."

🚀 Podcast Launch Tip of the week:

99% of podcasters are not being strategic enough with their podcast intro and outro audio.

It's that same, very skippable, song and dance with every episode.

I believe that strategic pattern disruptions are the KEY to creating intro and outro audio that leads to more:

    ➡️ Downloads

    ➡️ Discovery Calls

    ➡️ New clients
