Hey Pod Pals!
This newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday morning at 8:45 am CST.
My cold brew coffee is being slowly sipped and I'm testing something new this week.
I get hit up all the time from people that want to sponsor my newsletter....and just like with my podcast...I turn them all away.
Why?...because as content creators and online business owners we can make a LOT more $$$ by promoting our own products and services.
SO....this edition of the newsletter is being sponsored by ME..⤵️

This week we are going to talk about a process that could be a game changer for your podcast content and your business!
In last week's newsletter deep dive I unpacked a framework that I call The Podcasting Success Timeline.
If you missed that email you can view it in my newsletter library.
The Podcasting Success Timeline is my version of what I refer to as an Ideal Listener Journey. (let's call it an ILJ so I don't have to type that whole thing out a million times during this newsletter....LOL!)
I want to take a second to clarify the difference between a Customer Journey and an ILJ.
A Customer Journey is the process that someone goes through from discovering your brand to becoming a paying client.
An ILJ is a description of the transformation/journey that YOUR ideal podcast listeners are trying to navigate by listening to your show.
If you are a podcaster that is educating your audience on a topic you MUST consider going through the process I'm going to map out in this deep dive and creating your own ILJ.
Here are 3 huge benefits you will receive from clearly defining your ILJ:
✔️ Benefit #1: You will bring CLARITY to a normally confusing process for your listeners.
The first time I built an ILJ was for my weight loss show. We all know how tough/frustrating/confusing the weight loss process can be.
By creating an ILJ I was able to map out a CLEAR path to success.
If you can DEFINE the journey that your listeners want to go on it can make YOU the go-to expert in your niche.
✔️ Benefit #2: Your ILJ will be made up of several phases (usually 3-5) and each phase is an opportunity to create an offer to help your listeners progress through this transformation.
📌 Pro Tip: As you apply this framework you will start to notice that there will be a traffic jam of potential clients that are stuck at a very specific point in the journey.
For my Podcasting Success Timeline most of you are stuck between:
👉 Phase Two: The Post Launch Frustration Zone.
and
👉 Phase Three: The Growth & Monetization Traction Zone.
Understanding this is what led me to build offers like The Download Growth Club & The Online Business Academy for Podcasters.
You MUST have an offer for this transition point because that is where the BIG financial opportunity is!
✔️ Benefit #3: Your ILJ will get you inside of your content consumers heads....in a good way.
They will feel heard and understood because your content will be dialed in on their specific journey and the pain points that they need to solve along the way.
Now let's build your Ideal Listener Journey:
➡️ Step One: Define the first and last phase.
Think about where your listeners are starting in their journey and write down all of the symptoms of what they are dealing with.
Next think about the ultimate goal of what success looks and feels like for your listener journey and write down all of the symptoms of what they are experiencing at that point.
➡️ Step Two: Develop the "in between" steps.
I do this by writing out all of the "in between" symptoms that my listeners are going through in the middle of their journey.
➡️ Step Three: We want to have three to five symptoms for each phase. If you have more than five then you should probably add an extra phase of the journey.
➡️ Step Four: We want to have three to five action steps for each phase. This is the checklist of what they need to do in order to progress to the next phase.
Again..if you have more than five it is a sign that you should add another phase.
➡️ Step Five: Work on naming your phases.
I first developed my Podcasting Success Timeline ILJ a couple of years ago and the phase names have changed slightly since I started....so don't feel like you have to marry your phase names.
➡️ Step Six: Work on naming your ILJ.
Again...this is a work in progress.
Now what???
Here are a few ways you can use your ILJ once you have a "rough draft" ready to put to work:
🎙️ 1. Record a podcast episode about it.
🎧 2. Reference your ILJ during coaching episodes. Let them know which phase they are in.
💰 3. Reference your ILJ during discovery calls. This is a great way to clarify the journey that you are about to take them on as a new client!
🏆 4. Use your ILJ on your website as an image or in an explainer video like I did.
This process is going to take some time..and remember that it is a work in progress so don't be afraid to start talking about it once you have the basic framework put together.
The more you talk about it and start to use it, the easier it gets to update and refine each phase of the journey.

📈 Download Growth Club question of the week:
"I'm feeling confused about my social media promotion plan and I'm burning out fast. How can I simplify my podcast episode promo plan?"
This is a really important topic!
Here is the way I think about social media:
✅ 1. It IS possible to post content and "be on" several platforms. With A.I. and repurposing this can be easily done.
✅ 2. It is NOT possible to consistently show up and ENGAGE on more than one platform.
So for my show right now I'm posting content on Threads, IG, and Linkedin.
I'm only showing up and ENGAGING on Threads because that is where I'm getting the most organic growth, engagement, and I'm getting a lot of new clients!
So the key action step is to decide which platforms you are posting on and which ONE you are focusing your engagement efforts on.
So what do my Threads engagement efforts look like?
✔️ I post 3-8 times per day.
✔️ One daily post is a long form Superthread.
✔️ I set a timer for 20 minutes and I comment on OTHER people's posts every day.
✔️ I reply to ALL comments on my own posts.
🚀 Podcast Launch Tip of the week:
One of the most common mistakes I see new podcasters making is that they will let just about anybody on their show for an interview!
Here are a few quick pro tips for doing STRATEGIC interview podcast episodes:
➡️ Remember that ANYONE that you invite on your show as a guest needs to be able to deliver massive value to your audience.
➡️ Don't forget to ask the "What's in it for ME?" question. How does your brand/business benfeit?
➡️ Explore as many collaboration opportunities as possible with each interview experience.
Look for opportunities like:
✔️ Being a guest on their podcast.
✔️ Newsletter/Email cross promotion.
✔️ Going live on their favorite social media platform.
⭐️ In episode 083 of Podcast Launch Tips I go more in depth on my strategic interview episode strategy.
🤩 Client testimonial of the week: My client Shelly has a great podcast called Marketing Tips for Small Business Owners.
