podcast growth Dec 20, 2023
Here are THREE podcast SEO zones that you need to update as we head into the new year:
✅ SEO Zone One: The name of your podcast.
My perfect podcast name formula is as follows:
-When I read the name of your show I want to know what it is about.
-When I read the name of your show I want to know exactly who it's for.
-You need to have at least one (but ideally two or more) searchable keywords in the name.
If you can't check off all three of these boxes then you are missing out on ideal listeners that could be finding your show every single day.
✅ SEO Zone Two: Update your podcast description inside of your hosting service.
Your podcast description is the little blurb about your show that pops up under the title inside of podcast player apps. NOTE: I'm not talking about individual episode descriptions here. That is something different.
With our podcast host description we want to make sure that we include any and every possible keyword that our ideal listeners might search in podcast player apps like Apple or Spotify when they are looking for a show like ours.
When I coach someone through this I like to use a two part strategy with the host description:
Part One: Write a paragraph about what your show is about and stuff as many keywords in there as possible.
Part Two: Create a list of questions (with more keywords) that people might be typing into Google when searching for content like what you talk about on your show.
For part two I usually start it off with a line like "This show is for you if you are searching for answers to questions like:....."
✅ SEO Zone Three: Individual podcast episode titles.
With each episode that we put out we have to ask ourselves the question: Can I get a few more keywords in here?
If you look back at my episode titles for Podcasting Business School you will see that most of my episodes have the phrase "podcasting tips" in there.
When I ask people how they discovered my show they usually say that they were searching on Apple/Spotify for "podcasting tips" or "podcast about podcasting"......and I always pop up.
Last week I had the opportunity to test drive a new podcast SEO tool from Ausha and they verified that I am ranked #1 in Apple/Spotify for the search term "podcasting tips".
