⭐️ This week we are starting a two week series on email list building and marketing.
Building an email list is probably the least exciting part of being an online entrepreneur......BUT it is absolutely necessary Pod Pals!
You can use whatever analogy you want like: "We all have to do the dishes at some point!" ....or..... "Sometimes we just have to suck it up and take our medicine!"
Just trust me.....as your list grows you will be glad that you put in the work.
So now that our morning motivation moment is over....let's talk about how to actually build an email list!
Step One: Create a quality lead magnet. The days of having a spot on our homepage that says "Join my email list HERE" are long gone. Who in their right mind wants to just join an email list and get MORE emails.....LOL!
We have to give someone a valid reason to exchange their email for something that they consider to be of equal or more value.
Here are two key components of a highly effective lead magnet:
✅ Component #1: The lead magnet must address one major pain point that your ideal audience member has.
Notice that I said ONE pain point (not ALL of them). It's easy to convince ourselves that we are giving more value if we solve many things but, trust me, this won't work!
My highest performing lead magnet is my Podcast Growth Scorecard. Most of you reading this weekly newsletter came into my email world via this scorecard. It addresses ONE major podcasting pain point: podcast download growth.
✅ Component #2: The lead magnet must be able to provide a quick WIN that builds some momentum and encourages them to want more from you.
The lead magnet is the appetizer to the meal. I know that a very common fear amongst us online entrepreneurs is giving away too much for free.
I look at it this way: If I have a multi phase process or system, I'm going to give them "Phase One" for free in the lead magnet. This will provide some quick wins, help them build momentum towards the ultimate goal, and the participants will be hungry for the next step.
Let's use my Podcast Growth Scorecard as an example again. I have a multi phase process for download growth. The first phase of my download growth game plan is to help podcasters get organized with their marketing strategy. The scorecard 100% takes care of this.
